What will they do on the treasure hunt?

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you

Your child will listen to two stories. For each story, they'll pick a color token to decide their group. They'll then be introduced to two different groups of cartoon characters who are going on a treasure hunt. Children will then see one character who has found the map! We'll vary what the character does with the map after they find it. Children will then be asked questions about the character and the story.

From previous research, we know that kids think group members like other members of their group more than those outside of their group. We also know that children like people who are helpful. We are interested in what happens when kids have to consider both of these things at the same time. In this study, we're interested in seeing what kids think about how others choose when and who to help. Knowing how children balance being kind and helping close others helps us understand their early-emerging social and moral worlds!
