Judgement of Disagreement

Judgement of Disagreement

Harris Early Childhood Lab (Harvard University)

Who Can Participate

4-7 Year Old Children. We particularly welcome participation by families in which at least one parent does not have a college degree.

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Your child will be presented with uncertain scientific scenarios that have different outcomes; for example, they may see two objects of uncertain weight and be asked questions about other people's predictions.

What We're Studying

Children have different approaches to evaluating and resolving disagreements about uncertain scientific scenarios. Some trust peer informants while others do not draw conclusions based on peer informants. In this study, we are interested in seeing whether these approaches follow a developmental timetable and what social factors influence the developmental pattern. This research can help educators and parents better teach and scaffold children's constructive approaches to disagreements as they navigate their world.

Duration

20 minutes

Compensation

Participation will be compensated with $10 Amazon.com Giftcard. To be eligible for compensation, your child must be within the age range for the study and be visible at some point during the Zoom meeting. We will compensate only one gift card per child, and you will receive your compensation within 48 hours of completing your study.
