Developing Minds Lab (Skidmore College)
Who Can Participate |
For 4- to 6-year-olds who speak English at home |
What Happens |
With your child, you will click through a story in which you will see a series of pictures of children interacting with each other. Sometimes, you will see children being nice to each other; sometimes, you will see children being mean to each other. You can discuss the story just like you would discuss any story you read at home. At the end of the study, you will complete a short survey about your and your child’s social identities (e.g., things like political affiliation and race). |
What We're Studying |
We're interested in how parents and children talk to each other about behavior. Storybook reading is an important way that children learn about the world, so we want to know what kinds of things parents and kids focus on when they are discussing how people act in a story. We're asking questions like, Do parents and kids use different sorts of language when talking about mean behaviors versus nice behaviors? |
Duration |
20 minutes |
Compensation |
Within two weeks after your child participates, we will email you a $5 (USD) Amazon gift card as a thank-you! You will receive one gift card per child (even if they do the study more than once). The child must be in the age range for the study and be visible in your study video for you to receive the gift card. |
