What Happens |
Your child will be playing a game involving different treasure chests and bags of coins! Sometimes, it will be clear which treasure chest contains a coin bag, and sometimes it will be a mystery. During some scenarios, your child will be able to switch their choice, and the goal is to collect as many coins as possible! |
What We're Studying |
The purpose of the study is to understand more about the development of reasoning in young children. Children are often good at thinking about a single hidden option, but struggle to think about multiple options at the same time. To investigate this, our task presents children with a choice between a guaranteed, smaller reward and a hidden, potentially larger reward. By observing whether children choose the sure choice or opt for an uncertain hidden choice, we can learn more about how kids begin to navigate uncertainty and how their brains handle the logical foundations of risk and planning. |
