McPherson Auditory Perception Lab (Purdue University)
Who Can Participate |
For 4-6 year olds |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. This study will involve your child listening to sounds that a researcher plays and saying whether they like it a lot, a little, or dislike it a lot or a little. We ask that your child wear headphones. Parents will be asked to adjust the headphones so they are playing sounds at a comfortable volume. |
What We're Studying |
We are interested in how children develop preferences for the sounds they hear. For example, is hearing birdsong pleasant for young children, or do they learn that birdsong is considered a generally pleasant sound by adults and come to prefer it? Previous research has examined what types of musical sounds children like, but we are looking more broadly at environmental sounds such as bubbling water, machine noises, and animal calls. |
Duration |
30 minutes |
Compensation |
To be compensated the child will need to be in the age range and visible during the Zoom. Parents will be compensated once per child. Parents will receive a $15 gift card code to Amazon.com within 24 hours of completing the session. |
