Would you ask a Chatbot for Parenting Advice?

Tailored Research, Evaluation, and Continuous Improvement (TRECI) (Utah State University)

Who Can Participate

Parents and caregivers of 2- to 5-year-olds. Families currently living in the United States. If you have more than one child in this age range, please participate once, with any one child.

What Happens

First, you'll record a short consent video here on Children Helping Science (please have your child appear in the video for a moment). You'll then be sent to a secure online survey where you'll answer questions about whether and how you use AI tools (like ChatGPT or Gemini), and how you feel about using them for parenting advice. The survey also has a quiz to test how much parents know about how AI works. At the end, you can choose to download a 6-page Parenting Resource Guide on using AI safely to support your child's social and emotional development. If you'd like, you can also schedule a Zoom interview to tell us what you thought of the guide.

What We're Studying

More and more parents are turning to AI tools for parenting advice, but we know little about how parents decide whether to trust them. We want to learn what parents and caregivers of young children think about using AI for parenting help, and whether a short guide can help families use these tools safely to support children's social and emotional development.

Duration

15-20 min. Interview 30-45 minutes

Compensation

Complete a survey about your views on AI (15-20 min) - Entered into a drawing for one of four $25 Amazon.com e-gift cards. Winners will be notified no later than November 30, 2026.
At the end of the survey, you may choose to schedule an interview via Zoom to give feedback about a 6-page Parenting Resource Guide (30-45 min) - Receive a $10 Amazon.com e-gift card code at the end of the interview.
Each activity can only be completed once per household. Compensation can only be provided to participants within the United States. Child needs to be visible in the consent video to be entered into the gift card drawing.
