Harvard Lab for Developmental Studies (Thomas) (Harvard University)
Who Can Participate |
For 6 to 8 year olds who are based in the U.S |
What Happens |
In this study, your child will watch a story about two groups of characters deciding how to share fruit on an island. After, they will be told that the two groups can now change the way they decide who gets what. At the end, your child will be asked which ways the groups can decide are the easiest and fairest. |
What We're Studying |
In this study, we want to learn about children's intuitions about the easiest and fairest ways to decide how to distribute resources when in group contexts. We are especially interested in how their intuitions about what is fair and easy might be influenced by how resources have been distributed in the past (e.g., whether they were distributed equally or unequally between groups). This can be important in understanding children's theories about how groups change the way they are structured, as well as how decision making power is distributed. |
Duration |
5 minutes |
Compensation |
Your child will receive a 5$ Amazon.com gift card within two weeks of participating in study. In order to receive compensation, your child must be within the age range of the study (6-8 years old) and must be visible at some point within the video recording. We will only provide one gift card per child. |
