Chloe The Cat Talks About Shapes and Colors!

Chloe The Cat Talks About Shapes and Colors!

Quantitative Development Lab (Rutgers University)

Who Can Participate

For 5 year olds who only/predominantly speak English.

What Happens

In this study, your child will be shown images with different shapes and colors. A cat named Chloe will make judgements about the images. Your child's job will be to decide whether the judgement made by the cat is right or not. If the cat is wrong, they would be asked to tell why the cat is wrong.

What We're Studying

In this study, we are trying to look at how children make judgements about the word 'some' and how it changes depending on the context. Children are usually more tolerant of the word 'some' in cases where 'all' is true. We know that children are better at making proportional judgements in continuous formats (like pie charts) than discrete formats (like dots). We want to see whether the continuous format of the shapes would elicit better 'some' interpretations than discrete formats.

Compensation

Within two weeks of participating in this study, we will email you a $5 USD gift card to Amazon.com, Target.com or Walmart.com (you will be able to select your preference). To be eligible for the gift card your child must be in the age range for this study, you need to submit a valid consent statement in English, and we need to see that there is a child with you during the study. Each child will only receive a gift card once for participating.
