Star Machines

Star Machines

Gopnik Lab (UC Berkeley)

Who Can Participate

For 5- to 10-year-olds

What Happens

This study will take place on a Zoom video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Participate Now!” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. During the study, your child will take the role of an elf working at a star factory. They will be introduced to machines that make different stars, and will be asked to solve different problems using the machines.

What We're Studying

This study investigates children's ability to learn and explore different causal structures: when actions cause certain outcomes, and when they are not, and how to apply causal actions to generate new and diverse outcomes. We are interested in which actions children take when they explore and attend to different situations they have not seen before.

Duration
