CARE Lab (Wake Forest University)
Who Can Participate |
For 5- to 7-year-old children |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Participate Now!” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Your child will see photos of children who vary along dimensions such as gender, age, race, hair color, eye color, and shirt color. Your child will be asked to sort the photos to demonstrate what dimensions they view as most important. Your child may also learn about scenarios where children are choosing friends and be asked what they think about how children are making friendship choices. |
What We're Studying |
From previous research, we know that by the preschool years, children pay attention to things like race and gender when making their own friendship choices. However, little is known about how children think about other children’s friendship choices. In the current study, we are evaluating whether children's own attention to different features of people affects what they think about other children's friendship choices. We will also evaluate whether labeling different features about people influences children's evaluations. Understanding these questions will help us understand how to help children detect and respond to discrimination, ultimately promoting inclusive behaviors amongst children. |
Duration |
