What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with two researchers! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Your child will see a machine that lights up and plays music when certain objects are placed on it but not when others are placed on it, and be asked to determine which of the objects activated the machine, and which did not. Before this, however, we will provide children with different strategies that are designed to bolster their causal performance.

What We're Studying

Causal reasoning is a fundamental cognitive ability that enables individuals to learn about the world around them. The purpose of this study is to determine whether our research team can make children better causal reasoners. This research will provide a greater understanding of the underpinned mechanisms of causal reasoning of children.
