Who Can Participate |
For 5-year-olds. Each child may only participate in this study once. |
What Happens |
Your child will help an alien friend, Lulu, in learning about Earth. They will be introduced to two types of boxes, the number and the shape box. The number box may have different number of coins (e.g., 5 or 10 coins). The shape box may have different shaped toys (e.g., a ball or a block). After watching videos of people interacting with two boxes, they will be asked to pick the video that shows the number OR the shape box . |
What We're Studying |
Children have an intuitive sense of quantities, for example, they can tell apart 5 coins from 10 coins. But do children have any expectations about how other people get information about objects and quantities? To find out, we show children videos of different people interacting with hidden objects and quantities, and ask children to guess what those people are interacting with. This study will help us understand how children think other people can reason about quantities and objects. |
Duration |
20 minutes |
Compensation |
We will provide a $5 USD Amazon gift card for eligible participants. We will send you 1 gift card within 1 week of your first eligible participation. To be eligible for compensation we ask that you 1) provide a valid consent video (we will show you how!), 2) your child must be in the age range specified above and, 3) your child must be present during the recorded videos. Your child does not need to finish the entire study in order to be eligible for compensation. |
