Can Babies Track Two Objects?

Can Babies Track Two Objects?

Foundations of Learning and Knowledge (FOLK) Lab (University of California, Santa Barbara)

Who Can Participate

For 7- to 10-month-olds

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Participate Now!” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. In this Zoom-based study, your infant will observe different objects behind a wall. We will examine how cues of social engagement (e.g., a friendly voice) may lead infants to attend to and track different objects.

What We're Studying

In the past, infants have struggled to understand that two objects that move from behind a screen are different. We're interested in whether social engagement may support infants’ learning about those objects.

Duration

20 minutes

Compensation

Participants will receive a $5 online gift card and (if requested) a certificate of participation, within 24 hours of participating over Zoom. To receive the gift card and certificate, the infant must be within the age range for our study. Each infant will only receive one gift card. We can compensate participants with an Amazon US gift card, or with an alternative online gift card. We'll ask you about what gift cards work for your family, and we'll work with our lab manager to get you a suitable gift card.
