Changing Brain Lab (University of Pennsylvania)
Who Can Participate |
Children who are 7 years old. |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a live video call with one of our researchers. When you click the “Participate Now!” button, you’ll be able to choose a time on our online calendar that works best for your family. During the session, your child will learn about some new animals with a researcher on our team. Before we begin, we’ll ask your child which animals they are most excited to learn about. We will also let them know that they could earn a bigger prize if they remember information about certain animals. At the end, we’ll ask them what they remember. All children will receive the maximum prize at the end (in the form of an Amazon gift card). However, we do tell children their prize depends on what they remember so we can see how external rewards motivate their learning. Before the scheduled session, we ask that you complete a consent form and brief parent questionnaires that tells us about your child. |
What We're Studying |
Our lab is interested in how curiosity and rewards help children learn. We are collecting data from children both with ADHD and without ADHD. We think that children with ADHD may be especially motivated by their own curiosity, and they might learn more when they are curious about the topic. By studying how kids with and without ADHD respond to curiosity and rewards, we hope to better understand how we can leverage children’s strengths to support their learning in the classroom and beyond. |
