The Development of Social Cognition Lab (University of California, Irvine)
Who Can Participate |
For 4 - 8 year olds |
What Happens |
The study will take place via Zoom with a researcher! Selecting “Schedule a time to participate” takes you to a booking website, where you can choose a date and time that works best for you. A live researcher will tell your child about some actions that other children want to do that break physical or social rules (e.g., walk through walls, hit someone else) and ask them whether they think it is okay or not okay. They will also take part in a game where they raise their different hands depending on whether hearts or flowers appear on the screen, and will be asked a set of short brain teasers (e.g., what do cows drink?). |
What We're Studying |
In this study, we are interested in understanding how children’s cognitive control and cognitive reflection (the ability to reflect on their intuitive answers) relate to how they think about events (impossible, impermissible) that we don’t typically see around us (events that are impossible; immoral events). We additionally want to understand how participants’ linguality (whether they are monolingual or bilingual) impacts their thinking about these events. |
Duration |
20 minutes |
Compensation |
Online participation of this study will be compensated in the form of a $4 Tango gift card sent to your email within 2 weeks as long as they meet the eligibility criteria. |
