Conceptual Development Lab (University of Michigan)
Who Can Participate |
For 8- to 15-year-olds |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. In this study, your child will hear short stories about different people who share their information online. They will be asked who should be able to look at this information, and whether someone is to blame if this information is shared beyond the intended audience of the person who posted it. Finally, children will be asked about their own experiences with sharing and looking for personal information online. |
What We're Studying |
As children increasingly spend much of their time looking for and sharing information online, it is valuable to understand whether they think it is okay if personal information is shared and if others are able to access that information. It is important to explore how these beliefs relate to their own social media use and observations. |
Duration |
20 minutes |
Compensation |
Families of child participants will be compensated with a $5 e-gift card to Amazon.com. This gift card will be sent via email within one week of participation. A child may only participate in this study once. To receive compensation, the child must be within the age range and be able to hear the experimenter. |
