Trinity University Children's Research Lab (Trinity University)

Who Can Participate

For 5- to 6- year olds

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. The study will consist of a short video in which the child will be asked to listen to cartoon characters talk. They will be offered two similar sentences and be instructed to either only listen or indicate "which friend said it best" by pointing to the corresponding cartoon person. For example, the cartoons may say "Jessica tore the leaf." and "Jessica tore at the leaf." and the child would be asked to point at the "friend that said it best."

What We're Studying

This study examines how well children understand grammar, presenting them with two sentences, only one of which is grammatically correct. Seeing whether or not they can correctly identify the “better” sentence allows us to better grasp when children begin to understand sentence structure.

Duration

15 Minutes
