Let's Play Trivia!

SUPER Lab (Florida International University)

Who Can Participate

Children between the of ages 12 and 15 years and their parent
Both Parent and Child must be proficient in English
Only 1 child per family may participate. Siblings are not eligible to participate.

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Participate Now!” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Upon scheduling your session, you will receive a link to the video session. ONLY 1 child per family may participate in this study.

Your child will play a trivia game with either you (the parent) or another adult (assigned by the researcher). You will both then separately complete a questionnaire about punishment.

If you choose to allow your child to participate, he/she may be required to complete the study with either you (the parent) or another participant (assigned by the researcher).

What We're Studying

The purpose of the study is to understand children's rationales towards a parent's actions. Research has found differences in the way children describe their parent’s actions versus a stranger’s actions. This study will help us understand children's beliefs about punishment and how they explain adults' actions.

Duration

30 minutes

Compensation

After completing the session, your child (one per study session, child must be visible for the entire session, each child can only participate once, and must be in the specified age range) will receive a $20 (USD) Amazon.com e-gift card within 3 business days of the completion of the study.

This study is conducted by Deborah Goldfarb (contact: superlab@fiu.edu).
