Science Learning & Curiosity

Science Learning & Curiosity

Research in Education And Learning lab (University of Virginia)

Who Can Participate

7 and 8 year olds

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. During the study, your child will watch a science video and then answer questions about what they learned and how curious the video made them.

What We're Studying

In the present study, we aim to better understand the relationship between choice and curiosity in school aged children. We will first investigate whether learning experiences that involve choice promote students’ curiosity in a science activity. We will also investigate whether curiosity is related to learning in the (science) activity. Taken together, the following findings could have important, practical implications for increasing students’ motivation, and in turn achievement, in science.

Duration

Compensation

As a small token of our appreciation, families will receive a $5 Amazon gift card (Amazon.com) for participation in the appointment session. In order to participate and receive compensation, children must be within the specified age range and a citizen of either the United States or Canada.
