Zorbo's Number Quest

Zorbo's Number Quest

Cognitive and Developmental Neuroscience Lab (University of Massachusetts Amherst)

Who Can Participate

For 3- to 9-year olds

What Happens

In this study your child will assist Zorbo, the friendly alien, in learning about numbers. During the session your child will hear how many objects Zorbo was able to find. Then, your child will help decide which option is correct.

What We're Studying

Children start using number words before they fully understand what those words mean and even after children can use number words appropriately to count, it's unclear whether children only care about quantity when thinking about the meaning of number words. We are interested in whether children care more about the quantity of objects or the kinds of objects when interpreting what number words refer to. Understanding how children first understand number words will help researchers develop new and potentially more effective math education practices.
