What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. This study looks at how children think about big number words. In this study, your child will play three short games about numbers. In the first game, your child will be asked to point to the picture that represents a certain number. In the second game, your child will pick between different quantities of berries to feed animals. In the third game, your child will be asked a few questions about numbers between 1-10. |
What We're Studying |
Around age three, children can often count to ten or higher, but they don't yet know what those number words represent. Children learn the meaning of the word "one" first, then the meaning of "two", and so on. In this study, we are investigating what children know about the number words that they can count to but don't yet have exact representations for. More broadly, these findings can help us understand how children learn the meanings of new number words. |
