Who Can Participate |
For 4-5 year olds! |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. A researcher will read your child a short picture storybook about a character named Sammy, who tries the same thing several times, like asking friends to play or winding up toys, with different frequency of results each time. Afterward, the researcher will ask your child questions about what they think will happen next. At the end, we will ask you a few questions about your child's social abilities, such as how often your child shares their things with others. |
What We're Studying |
The world doesn't always work the same way twice: a friend might say yes to playing sometimes and no other times, or a toy might not always turn on. Even young children have to make sense of this kind of unpredictability every day. This study asks: how do children figure out what to expect from people, animals, and objects that don't always act the same way? Understanding this helps us learn more about how children build up their expectations about the world. |
