Record a video with your baby during mealtime!

Infant Feeding Lab (Appalachian State University)

Who Can Participate

For 6- to 12-month-old infants who are eating solid foods.

What Happens

You will record a typical mealtime with your baby right in the CHS study pane. The recording is intended to be as natural and unobtrusive as possible, and will be done in your own home.

What We're Studying

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between babies’ eating behaviors and their emotions. Some research has been done on weaning styles (e.g., baby-led weaning, traditional spoon feeding) and their correlates to cognitive and physical development. This study intends to add to that literature by examining babies while they eat and observing how they eat as well as the emotions expressed during that feeding period. All your child needs to do is be themself!

We are trying to gain a baseline understanding of the kinds of emotions expressed by babies engaged in different kinds of eating so that future questions (e.g., What causes these differences? What other factors relate to these things?) can be asked and researched. Transitioning to solid foods is a major part of your baby’s life, and research about the early experiences of eating can help parents and pediatricians alike know how to approach this critical developmental milestone.
