Silly Monster Stories

Silly Monster Stories

Early Learning Lab (Skidmore College)

Who Can Participate

For 3 to 6 year olds

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. During the video call, your child will meet one of our research assistants who will show your child pictures of silly, friendly monsters and read stories about them. They will then ask your child some short questions about the stories. The call will last about 10 minutes.

What We're Studying

We are studying what children learn from story books, and how different types of sentences and pictures influence what children pay attention to. Previous work has found that some cues, such as simple pictures, help children learn words during story book reading. We are looking at not only whether some cues help with word learning, but also how others cues might help children learn additional details from the story. This study will help us understand how the ways we talk to children affect what they learn.

Duration
