What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. In this study, your child will be given a set of words (e.g., big, fast) and asked to say the opposite of them (e.g., little, slow). |
What We're Studying |
In this study, we are interested in examining the factors that help children reason about “opposites” before they are formally taught about them in school. There is evidence that children as young as four years of age have an understanding of this relation, and with this study we are looking at how they generate opposites. Because the ability to understand opposites is a crucial component of education, we are interested in examining the type of interventions and feedback (e.g., pictures, language cues) that are most helpful to children who are just starting to learn this skill. |
