Affective Cognition Lab (University of Toronto Scarborough)
Who Can Participate |
For 5- to 7-year-olds |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a Zoom video call with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can choose a date and time that works for you. Your child will engage in various drawing activities during which the experimenter will provide positive feedback in response to their work. Later, your child will be asked to choose between difficult and easy drawing tasks and participate in a drawing persistence task. |
What We're Studying |
We know from previous research that social feedback plays an important role in children’s persistence. In this study, we are particularly interested in how positive emotional cues influence children’s persistence and their willingness to take on challenges. We will ask children to draw various pictures and provide positive emotional responses with different intensity levels. We want to observe how the emotional cues motivate children when they are given an opportunity to take on challenges, as well as how they influence their performance on a subsequent persistence task. |
Duration |
30 minutes |
Compensation |
After you finish the study, we will email you either a $5 Amazon.com or a $7 Amazon.ca gift card (based on your preference) in three to seven days. To be eligible for the gift card your child must be in the age range for this study, you need to submit a valid consent statement, and we need to see that there is a child with you during the experiment. |
