CARE Lab (Wake Forest University)
Who Can Participate |
For 6- to 10-year-old children |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Your child will hear stories about people who are smart and nice. Your child will see photos of people who vary along dimensions such as gender, race, hair color, and eye color. Then your child will be asked to pick the photos of people they think are smart and nice. Your child will also have a short break between tasks where they will watch a video of animals. |
What We're Studying |
From previous research, we know that from a young age, children's judgments are shaped by things like race and gender. However, we know very little about how race and gender simultaneously influence children's judgments -- for example children have beliefs about girls and boys, but do these beliefs differ when thinking about Asian people, Black people, or White people? In the current study, we will evaluate whether children use multiple social dimensions to guide their views of who is smart and nice. By learning more about these early views, we can better understand how to encourage children to have inclusive views about all people. |
Duration |
