Help Robo figure out secret rules!

Help Robo figure out secret rules!

Early Childhood Cognition Lab (Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT))

Who Can Participate

For 4- to 7-year olds

What Happens

Your child will play a grid-based game where they have to make patterns on grids that follow certain rules. First, your child will learn how to play the game. Then, they will play 10 rounds of a game where they have to figure out the secret rule and then follow that rule! There will be an additional set of trials after the initial 10 test trials that your child can play if they are enjoying the game.

What We're Studying

We want to understand how children figure out a hidden rule from just a few examples. When children see a few example grids change in some way, can they figure out the rule and use it on a new grid they’ve never seen before? This helps us learn how young children make sense of new problems and where flexible, abstract thinking comes from.
