Who Can Participate

5- to 10-year-old children who are fluent in English

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. In the study session, your child will be introduced to a fictional cartoon town and hear a story about how the group lives. Children will hear that the group needs to choose a new first leader and second leader. Next, they will learn about two leader pairs, one with a girl first leader and one with a boy first leader. Your child will be asked which leader pair they think will win, how much they would want to be the first or second leader, and why.

What We're Studying

The purpose of this study is to understand how children think about leadership and who they expect to hold leadership roles. We want to understand how seeing leaders of different genders affects what children think about leadership in terms of a fictional society and also how they think about leadership in relation to themselves. This helps us to support children’s learning about leadership and to understand what factors shape children’s own interest in leadership roles.
