Children's Play Preferences

Children's Play Preferences

Cognition, Learning, and Development (CoLD) Lab (University at Albany, SUNY)

Who Can Participate

For 5- and 6-year-old children, who speak English and live in the United States

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Your child will participate in one session on Zoom, where they will be shown pictures of different play activities, answer questions about their interest in these and other activities and play an academic game with a researcher, which involves answering questions related to academics.

What We're Studying

This study considers what factors influence children’s play preferences. Play is important for children’s learning and development and previous research has shown that children have different preferences for play. This study will help researchers better understand what factors influence children’s interest in and preference for different play activities, which can help support children’s learning and development.

Duration

25 to 30 minutes

Compensation

Eligible participants (5- and 6-year-old children, who speak English and live in the United States) who participate in the study will receive a $5 Amazon.com gift card by email within 1 week of participation. Each child is eligible to participate and receive a gift card only once. Participants cannot do the study more than one time for compensation.
