COMPARE Lab (Indiana University)
Who Can Participate |
For 3-to-4 year old children who understand and speak English |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. You will then fill a survey form to answer several questions about your child's curiosity behaviors. In the video call, your child will be asked to help Ottie, the octopus search for hidden food (choose 1 between 2) which differ in their size and certainty status. |
What We're Studying |
Previous research has shown that young children before age 4 struggle to understand possibility concepts. The purpose of this study is to better understand how children make decision between a guaranteed outcome and a mere possible outcome. Specifically, we want to investigate how children’s exploration of non-optimal choice is affected by the cost of exploration. |
Duration |
25 minutes |
Compensation |
You will emailed a $10 Tango gift card within a week of your participation that can be redeemed at 100+ different popular companies (e.g., Amazon, Target, Starbucks). Only one gift card is available per child and to be eligible to receive compensation your child must match the eligibility requirements of this study (3-4 years old and english speaking), and be visible during the session. |
