Who Can Participate |
For 4-6 year olds |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call - live with a researcher! Clicking on the "Schedule a time to participate" button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Your child will see some videos and photos of a card placed in different locations and answer some questions about whether the card looks like a smile or a frown when different characters look at it from different locations in space. After seeing each photo, your child will answer questions about whether the card looks like a smile or a frown to the character. |
What We're Studying |
In this study, we aim to explore how children think about visual perspective taking. Visual perspective taking is the skill of understanding what someone else might see from their viewpoint as opposed to your own. We are particularly interested in knowing how who is doing the looking and where they are doing the looking from may impact children’s visual perspective taking skills. Your child will see a card that can either look like a smile or a frown. In some scenes, the card will match the perspective of your child, but in some, it will not. We then ask your child whether the card looked like a smile or a frown to the character. This research helps us understand different locations and characters may affect your child's perspective taking abilities. |
