How Dinosaur Lovers Think

How Dinosaur Lovers Think

Vanderbilt Language Development Lab (Vanderbilt University)

Who Can Participate

For 5 to 9 year olds in the United States with an interest in dinosaurs

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Children will be asked to name pictures of dinosaurs and answer some questions about how dinosaurs behave. They will also play a guessing game to figure out what dinosaur/animal the researcher is thinking about and answer questions about things a dinosaur could definitely do, might have done, or would never have done.

You will be asked to fill out questionnaires about your family, your child's interest in dinosaurs and animals and dinosaurs you child knows about prior to attending the session. We expect these questionnaires will take no more than 10 minutes.

What We're Studying

In this study we are trying to learn how children with varying levels of dinosaur knowledge ask questions and reason about possibility. There is not a lot of research out there about children with dinosaur knowledge, so we want to know more about them! We think that this information will provide insight into how extremely intense interests can benefit children's development.

Duration

45 minutes

Compensation

As a small token of our appreciation, your child will be provided with a $10 online Amazon gift card. In order to receive this compensation, your child must meet the eligibility criteria for the study and attend the scheduled session. Compensation will be received within 3 weeks of participating.
