How Many Objects Were There?

How Many Objects Were There?

Lab for Child Development (Johns Hopkins University)

Who Can Participate

For 8 to 11 month olds

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking the “Schedule a time to participate” button will take you to a calendar where you can choose a time that works for you. Your baby will watch videos with two objects. One object continuously changes color, while the other stays the same color. The objects will appear one at a time from behind a screen.

What We're Studying

Babies have to keep track of objects even when they briefly disappear from view. What helps them decide whether they have seen the same object again or a different one? In this study, we ask whether babies use the way an object changes over time to make that decision. If they see something that continuously changes color and something that stays one color, do they expect there to be two objects? The answer will help us understand how babies make sense of changing objects and keep track of what is around them.

Duration
