Can you find the rose?

This study is eligible for children between the ages of 14 and 24 months who reside in the United States.

Your child will look at several pairs of images placed side-by-side, varying in their similarity to each other, and will be prompted by an audio recording to look at one of the images! Then, you will be prompted to fill out a survey in which you answer questions about whether your child understands and says different words. Your child's face will be recorded during the study and we will use their eye movements to understand which images they're looking at.

We want to understand how the amount of knowledge children have about categories changes over time. As children get older, they may have more information about a certain category. By showing children objects that vary in their similarity to each other, we can see if children at a certain age have enough knowledge about a category to recognize the labeled image even when it is paired with a similar object. If we understand how this process changes across development, we can provide better assessments and interventions for children who struggle with early category learning, including late talkers and children with ASD.
