Affective Cognition Lab (University of Toronto Scarborough)
Who Can Participate |
For 5-year old children. |
What Happens |
Your child will hear stories about other children waiting to hear some important news. The person will then receive either positive, negative, or uncertain news. Your child will be asked to rate how the child in each story might feel at different time points using the emotion scale provided. |
What We're Studying |
How do children feel when they don't know what’s going to happen next? In this study, we are interested in learning how children think others' feelings might change over prolonged periods of certainty and uncertainty. We will first tell your child some stories about children receiving certain (positive or negative) or uncertain news and then they’ll be asked to rate how the child in each story might feel at different points in time. This study will help us understand how children predict changes in others' feelings based on the certainty or uncertainty of the situation. |
Duration |
15 minutes |
Compensation |
After you participate in the study, we will email you a US$5 or CA$7 Amazon gift card within approximately one to seven days. To be eligible for the gift card, (1) your child must be in the age range for this study, (2) you need to submit a valid consent statement, and (3) we need to see that there is a child with you during the experiment. But we will send a gift card even if you do not finish the whole study or we are not able to use your child's data! Each child can only participate in this study once. |
