Talking About Animals

Talking About Animals

Project GARDEN (The University of Texas at Dallas)

Who Can Participate

3- to 7-year-old children and their caregivers who are participating in Project GARDEN and are able to understand and answer questions in English. To join Project GARDEN, or to see which study your child can do next, visit childrenhelpingscience.com/garden, click "Start Now", and select your child's name under "Find studies for..."

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! When you click on “Participate now!” you will fill out a brief survey about your child’s experience with pets and your own experience with the subject of biology. Then, you will see an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you to participate with your child. During the video call, your child will see various animals and answer questions about them like "Does this animal stay the same size?" and "Does this animal have feelings?"

What We're Studying

We are interested in understanding how children think about biology, and how that changes over development and with experience. Based on previous research, we know that we know that children who have experience with pets have a different understanding of biology. In this study, we are interested in learning more about how biology and animals are connected.

Duration
