A peer’s playmate choices

A peer’s playmate choices

Social Kids Lab (University of Wisconsin-Madison)

Who Can Participate

For 5- to 10-year-old children currently living in the U.S.

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Participate Now!” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. In this study, your child will hear some stories about a child character who picks some children but not others to play with. Your child will be asked what they think about how the character is making playmate choices.

What We're Studying

From previous research we know that children think peer exclusion is not okay when an adult explicitly points out the exclusion to them. However, little is known about what children think about or how they try to stand up to peer exclusion scenarios when the exclusion is not pointed out to them. Understanding children’s spontaneous thoughts and reactions to peer exclusion is important because it will help us create methods for helping children promote inclusive behavior in their social lives.

Duration

After the session we will send you a $10 payment via Venmo, PayPal, or an Amazon.com gift card within one week. Each participating child must currently live in the U.S. and be between 5 and 10 years old. Each child can only receive one gift card.
