Autism & Neurodevelopmental Disorders Institute- George Washington University (George Washington University)
Who Can Participate |
For kids aged 8-12, who DO NOT have a diagnosis of autism or any cognitive, visual, or auditory impairments that would make it difficult for them to complete the study. Children cannot participate in this study multiple times. If you have multiple eligible children, they can each participate once. Note: Across multiple studies we will be comparing results from children who are diagnosed with autism to those who are not; this particular study is for children who do not have an autism diagnosis. |
What Happens |
The study takes 1.5 hours to complete—approximately 30 minutes for the parent/guardian and one hour for the child. Parents will complete a video consent with their participating child present and then complete multiple choice surveys about their child's behavior. Then, the child will play a 3 part game (each part is 10-15 minutes) in which they learn what things (food, toys, games) another child likes. Finally, the child will fill out a survey about their own preferences. Please note that if you stop the the study (exit out of the page) part way through you will not be able to finish it later, and so that will end the study session |
What We're Studying |
This study will help us understand how children make decisions about others. We would like to understand how children with autism and children without autism differ in their social behavior and learning strategies. Your child's participation will allow us to understand children's decision-making strategies and help us design future research on social decision-making in children with and without autism. |
Duration |
Most families complete the study in 60-90 minutes |
Compensation |
Compensation for this study is up to $30 in the form of an Amazon.com gift card. If you start the parent portion study, you will receive $5, and you will receive an additional $25 for starting the child portion of the study. |
