Berkeley Early Learning Lab (UC Berkeley)
Who Can Participate |
For 9 - 15 month olds in the U.S. |
What Happens |
Your baby will watch short videos of four groups of animated characters dancing. Each group will first have its members dance with each other and then dance towards a box. We're curious to see if babies can predict which box the fourth group will dance towards after seeing how the previous three groups danced. |
What We're Studying |
Previous research has shown that babies can use a small amount of evidence about objects to make predictions about future events. We are interested if this type of reasoning can be applied to make future predictions about social groups. We will measure this by seeing if babies can predict the last group's actions when it's their turn to dance after seeing three other groups dance previously! This will help us better understand the development of children’s reasoning about social groups and their behaviors. |
