Which face did you see before?

UCCS Cognitive Development Lab (University of Colorado Colorado Springs)

Who Can Participate

Children must be between the ages of 8- to 13-years-old. They also need to live in the United States, and be able to withstand a 45-minute task. This study requires the participant to use a laptop or computer to complete the study. We only allow one child to participate per family.

What Happens

This study will take place on a Zoom video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. During the study, your child will play a 45-minute memory game. They will see a series of faces and then be asked to recognize which face they saw before, including explaining why they chose their answer. A parent will fill out a 10-15 minute long questionnaire about how they (the parent) think and learn. Families will receive a $20 e-gift card and children will receive a science participation certificate.

What We're Studying

This research explores the development of memory in children. We want to better understand how children self-reflect about their memories, a process called metacognition. Specifically, we are comparing children's numeric confidence ratings (1 not sure - 5 very sure) to their verbal descriptions when they recognize faces.

Duration

60 minutes

Compensation

Families will receive a $20 e-gift card within 1 to 3 business days after participation. This e-gift card will be emailed using Tango Rewards which can be used at various vendors (e.g. Amazon, Target, etc). Please use this link: https://www.tangocard.com/reward-catalog to see the list of vendors. Children will receive a science participation certificate.
