Attitudes towards Music

Goldsmiths InfantLab (Goldsmiths, University of London)

Who Can Participate

For 6- to 11- year olds

What Happens

The online questionnaire presents statements about attitudes towards music and asks children to decide how much they agree with each of them on a 5-point agreement scale.

What We're Studying

This research aims to develop a new child-friendly inventory of a popular measure of musicality in adolescence and adulthood: the Gold-MSI: Müllensiefen et al., 2014. At this stage, data is being collected using a larger version of the scale which will be used to calibrate the scale. Once calibrated the new scale will be completed by a large sample of 6-11 year olds to i) investigate the psychometric properties of the questionnaire and ii) develop a new framework for understanding the structure of musicality in childhood.
