Let's learn how to dax!

Let's learn how to dax!

Leonard Learning Lab (Yale University)

Who Can Participate

For 8- to 10-year-olds!

What Happens

Your child will learn a new activity called "daxing" (a fun novel visual search task). They will dax four times to try out for the "Daxing Club". Afterwards, your child will answer questions about daxing, what they think of their own daxing ability, and why they think they did or did not get into the club.

What We're Studying

In school, children are often selected into ability-based groups (e.g., based on performance on certain tests) or clubs (e.g., chess). However, gender and racial under-representation may persist within these groups. At what age are children sensitive to under-representation, and do they use it as an indication of their own ability? This work examines the role that under-representation plays in shaping children's perceptions of themselves and others.
