Watch Elmo and Grover talk to friends!

For 4- to 7-year-olds

In this study, you and your child will watch two short videos of Elmo and Grover meeting friends. In each video, the puppet tells a story to a person. Sometimes the person is paying attention, and sometimes they get distracted. While watching, your child will be asked a few simple questions about what is happening in the videos, such as what the characters are talking about, what they see, and where they are looking. Please use a laptop/computer to participate in the study so that everything displays properly.

We are interested in how children keep track of and understand others' social interactions. Social interactions can include many kinds of information, such as what someone is saying, what is happening around them, and what people are looking at. In this study, we are exploring how children notice and understand different parts of a social interaction.

You can only participate in this study once for compensation. If you are eligible for compensation, we will email you a $5 Amazon.com gift card within approximately five days. To be eligible for the gift card, (1) your child must be in the age range for this study, (2) your child speaks English, (3) you need to submit a valid consent statement, (4) we need to see that there is a child with you during the experiment, (5) one child can only participate in the study once for compensation, and (6) a child who has participated in the previous version of this study is not eligible for participating this study.
