Brown Language and Thought Lab (Brown University)
Who Can Participate |
20-23 month olds |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the "Schedule a time to participate" button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Your child will be seated on your lap and will see some pictures and watch a short video of a cartoon character labeling some objects in ways that are sometimes silly and wrong. Your child's reactions will help us understand if they think the character is using her words in the right way. |
What We're Studying |
Children see and hear people labeling objects around them every day (for example, saying "This is a ball!"). This study is investigating how children respond when a character violates social norms by making a false statement (e.g., "This is a car!" or "This is not a ball!" when a ball is on the screen). This will help us understand how children use the language that they hear around them to learn about the world! |
