I-Spy in the Basket!

Language and Cognition Lab @ UPenn (University of Pennsylvania)

Who Can Participate

For 4- and 5-year-old (younger than 6-year-old) English-speaking children

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. In the study, your child will interact with a live researcher and two friendly animal characters, Mr. Cat and Miss Bunny, on screen. Your child will see some images. Then Miss Bunny will describe one of them, and Mr. Cat will ask your child to evaluate whether Miss Bunny said it right.

What We're Studying

In this study, we’re interested in what young children know about the meanings of plural words like cats or pears—words that tell us something about how many of something there are. By exploring how children interpret plural words in different situations, we hope to better understand how they integrate grammatical knowledge with conversational reasoning to acquire language.
