For 2- and 3-year-olds that can understand English and live in the US.

In this study, your child will go on an adventure with an alien friend! Your child will complete a series of games by using keyboard to demonstrate their understanding of number words. You and your child will also briefly talk about a picture together, like during reading time. After that you, the parent, will be completing a questionnaire. We will invite you to come back and participate again in the future, so that we can also study how your child's number skills change over time. This study works best with an external keyboard. If you are using a laptop, please have a towel handy to cover the touchpad during the key-pressing games.

Counting is one of the hallmark abilities young children achieve in early childhood. How do their understanding of number words grow over time? In this study we have developed a fun series of games that will help document your child's number skills and experiences over time. Findings from this study will give us new insights to how number knowledge emerges and grows in each child.

We will provide a $5 USD Amazon.com gift card for eligible participants. We will send you 1 gift card within 1 week of your first eligible participation. To be eligible for compensation we ask that you 1) provide a valid consent video (we will show you how!), 2) your child must be in the age range specified above and, 3) your child must be present during the recorded videos. Your child does not need to finish the entire study in order to be eligible for compensation.
