Social and Moral Learning Lab (University of Wisconsin-Madison)
Who Can Participate |
For 5- to 9-year-old children |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! By clicking the “Participate Now!” button, you’ll be directed to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. In this study, your child will see cartoon characters and hear short stories about them. Each story will involve two characters facing different challenges, with another character stepping in to help one of them. Then, your child will be asked some questions about what they think about these characters (e.g., "Do you think this character's action is good or bad?"). |
What We're Studying |
There is evidence that adults’ evaluations of moral actions are influenced by different social relationships. However, in general, we know little about how that influences children’s social evaluations. This study explores how children think about social relationships (e.g., parent-child relationships, friendship) when reasoning about prosocial behavior. Studying these questions will help us understand children’s social and moral development and could inform efforts to support children’s moral reasoning and relationship-building skills. |
