Children ages 2.5 to 3.5 and their parent are eligible to participate

In this study, you will read a picture book about numbers aloud to your child as you would at home. The picture book will be provided digitally. We will also ask you to complete a short survey including questions about your experience reading the book, your child's learning, and your own perspectives on number learning.

Parents can shape young children's early experiences with abstract concepts, such as numbers. This study focuses on understanding how children and families engage with numbers at home. While previous research has established the role of parents in number learning, this study will specifically examine parents’ goals when reading number books to their children and how this may affect their interactions.

In order to be eligible for compensation: 1) your child must be in the age range for the study, 2) you must complete valid consent/assent procedures, 3) we must see that there is a child with you, and 4) this must be your first time taking the study.
