Who Can Participate

For 3 and 4- year olds and English-only speakers

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Participate Now!” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you.

During the study, your child will watch cartoon characters talk about different activities at a park. In each scene, your child will hear two sentences—one that is correct and one that is incorrect. Your child will then be asked to pick the character who said the sentence best.

What We're Studying

We are studying how kids learn the meanings of complex verbs that describe where things are. We want to know if children can learn to use these verbs correctly in sentences and understand when they are used correctly. There are two important things we are interested in: one is using the words in sentences to figure out what they mean, and the other is looking at pictures or scenes to understand the words. This research will help us know how kids learn new and complicated words.
